1. Daniel Zitka (Anderlecht)

Anderlecht keeper Daniel Zitka was on his way to hospital with a broken leg when one clumsy stretcher bearer stumbled and went head-first into the turf. The clown then had the cheek to milk his own injury for all it was worth!

2. Internacional v Confianca

After a less then comfortable lift onto the stretcher, this Brazilian player was treated to a very close inspection of one of the stretcher-bearer’s backside.

3. Salvador Agra (Olhanense)

These Portuguese stretcher-bearers seem to think that an unconscious player doesn’t need the same level of attention because they can’t complain. Agra is being rushed to an ambulance after a knockout blow to the head. But there’s still time for a second blow to the head as he’s dropped from the stretcher.

4. Uefa officials

We’re not sure what match this comes from, but the Uefa-bibbed officials act as a nice visual metaphor for the organisation. They constantly pull in different directions and inevitably end up in a big heap on the floor.

5. Chinese U21 player

More haste, less speed is the lesson for the stretcher-bearers in this video. Overlooking the wheels at their disposal, they instead decide to sprint for the touchline. And if you feel the stretcher slipping, just run faster!

6. Badajoz player

Nothing wrong with the carrying in this incident at all – it’s the tools that are the problem. In the absence of a stretcher, medics at Spanish outfit Badajoz decide to use a door instead!

7. Academico de Viseu v Sanjoanense

These Portuguese Laurel and Hardy impersonators find out the hard way that it’s best if both stretch-bearers are facing in the same direction. Somehow they make it off the pitch without dropping the player, but once on the touchline one of them collapses on top of him!

8. Zach Thornton (Chivas USA)

Former Chivas USA keeper Thornton is a sizeable unit, but that doesn’t excuse the stretcher-bearers in this 2008 match against Toronto. An out-of-breath woman seems to be the main culprit as the stretcher is dropped to the ground. Thornton opts to walk the rest of the way.

9. Desportivo Brasil v Flamengo

It looks like the stretcher-bearer in this Brazilian under-18 match is a converted ball boy rather than a specialist medic. And it shows. After sitting on the injured player’s face several times, he eventually takes some tips from the ref on how to lift a stretcher.

10. Jesper Christiansen (FC Copenhagen v Brondby)

This female stretcher-bearer suffers an injury of her own in transit. You can see the moment something goes ‘ping’ in her leg. And it’s all downhill from there.

11. German piles inspector

The classic YouTube example of lifting the injured player’s head into your backside. The victim’s reaction is priceless.

12. Iranian trip

This Iranian stretcher bearer trips while carrying a player off the pitch and ends up with a worse injury than the one he was helping to treat.

Bonus video: Algeria v Rwanda

Sometimes the stretcher-bearers can’t win. This Rwanda player hasn’t wasted enough time with his fake injury in their match against Algeria and is almost off the pitch. He decides to dive from the stretcher and suggest that the medics have deliberately dropped him!
