There are many truly iconic moments in International football – the Marco Van Basten volley, Andrea Pirlo’s recent Euro 2012 panenka penalty, and Paul Konchesky earning an England cap come immediately to mind. However, few have put a bigger smile of football fan’s faces than the unforgettable acrobatics of Colombian goalkeeper Renee Higuita.

The former international and proud perm-wearer founded the scorpion-kick in a friendly against the Three Lions in 1995, and the audacious move has now been immortalised by the table-top football game Subbuteo.

Fingers crossed this is a sign of things to come for the retro past-time. OTP will certainly be keeping our eyes peeled  for some more equally exquisite moments in time getting the meticulous moulding treatment. We would happily add a miniature model of Mario Balotelli doing his Mr Universe pose to our collection.

If you are particularly starved of football at the moment and you have an allergy to money-dripping world tours by Premier League clubs, head down to the Ethiad stadium this weekend where the Subbuteo World Cup is currently taking place. Flares and vitriolic banners will be confiscated.

And just because it never gets old…
