Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom was shown a red card while captaining England Under-21s last night.

The Reds right-back kicked out at a Finnish opponent right in front of the referee with 16 minutes remaining in last night’s 1-1 draw.

A free-kick had already been awarded against Wisdom when – showing that his surname might not always be particularly apt – he decided to kick out at Tim Vayrynen, who was on the ground from the initial clumsy challenge.

The ref has no hesitation in sending Wisdom for an early bath.
