Jamie Carragher reduced the Monday Night Football team to fits of laughter with his assertion that no-one wants to grow-up to be Gary Neville.
The Liverpool legend was initially making a general point about most full-backs being failed wingers or failed centre-backs. But, spotting he had touched a nerve with professional right-back Neville, he hammered home his point.
He told the former United captain: “No-one wants to be a full-back as a kid. No-one want to grow-up to be a Gary Neville.”
Neville immediately demanded that Paolo Maldini and Roberto Carlos be invited into the studio to mount a defence for the full-backs union.
