Arsenal and Juventus battle for Basel defender Fabian Schar

Juventus and Arsenal are set to go head-to-head in their efforts to sign Basel centre-back Fabian Schar.

The 21-year-old has caught the eye with his performances at the back for the Swiss side, not least with a great display in last week’s victory over Chelsea.

He only joined them from minnows FC Wil last year, but has established himself as a Switzerland international in that time.

With Basel now hoping to turn themselves into a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League, they are keen to keep hold of the youngster.

But serious bids from Arsenal or Juve would probably convince them to sell.
