Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata will join Arsenal in January on a six-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old is keen to secure first-team football as he pushes for a place in Spain’s World Cup squad.

He had been linked with moves to teams including Tottenham over the summer, but Real kept hold of him in the belief that he could establish himself as a regular starter this season.

That has not proven to be the case, with the youngster making just one league start so far this campaign, and he will be allowed to make a loan switch during the transfer window.

The Daily Express reports that his move to Arsenal is already tied up.

At the Emirates, he would become the preferred backup option to lone striker Olivier Giroud. That’s likely to mean substitute appearances in most matches, regular starts when Giroud is rested and becoming the lead striker if the Frenchman is injured or suspended.
