Corinthians have rejected a £6.5m bid from Arsenal for Alexandre Pato, according to reports in Brazil.

Sports daily Lance! claim that the Gunners lodged an offer for the Brazil international, who is also wanted by Tottenham.

The Brazil international, touted as one of the world’s top talents when he arrived in Italy in 2007, has started just three of Corinthians’ last 11 games following a series of underwhelming displays. He has scored just ten goals since joining the club.

Although the 24-year-old has fallen out of favour at the club, they are unwilling to let the player they signed from AC Milan for £12m in January leave on the cheap.

They were rumoured to have rejected a £12.5m bid from Spurs over the summer and will not want to let him leave for less than that.

The north London rivals could go head-to-head for Pato in the January transfer window, with Spurs also keen to strengthen their attack.
