Liverpool meet Inter to discuss Mateo Kovacic deal
Liverpool have held discussions with Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio over the transfer of midfielder Mateo Kovacic, according to Italian transfer news site Calcio Mercato.
The report suggests three members of the Anfield hierarchy travelled to the Palazzo Parigi Hotel in Milan to meet Ausilio and Kovacic.
The Reds have been linked with Kovacic for some time as they prepare to replace captain Steven Gerrard in their midfield ahead of next season.
That interest appears to have been stepped up with Thursday’s meeting in person to try to land the Croatia international.
Inter are reportedly planning to cash-in on the 22-year-old to help finance a move for Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
The report claims that a bid of €30m would be needed in order for Liverpool to get their man.
Kovacic extended his contract at San Siro until June 2019 when he signed a new deal in January. His salary rose from €1.5m to €2.5m per season when he put pen to paper.
