Major League Soccer’s regular season did end last weekend, or rather that was the last round of fixtures, though thanks to some rescheduling, there’s one regular-season game left in the Western Conference.
On Sunday evening, the Vancouver Whitecaps will host LAFC. Both teams have already guaranteed their postseason spots, but the hosts still have something to play for as a win would see them bypass the wildcard matches. Read on for our Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC predictions and picks.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC prediction
For the Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 0-1 win for the visitors tie based on our analysis.
For all the hosts need to win, they’ve not been amazing offensively of late, while the visitors will want to stay solid and, at the very least, avoid defeat ahead of the play-offs. As the Whitecaps get desperate, don’t be too surprised if the LAFC boys pick them off on the break.

Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC head-to-head statistics
This will be the third time that the pair have met during the current campaign. Back in May, LAFC won by three goals to nil at home, while the pair tied 2-2 (before the Whitecaps won on penalties) in the Leagues Cup in July. When they last faced off at BC Place, the visitors won by a goal to zero.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC preview
This game will take place on 13/10/2024 at BC Place. Kick off will be at 20:30 local time.
For the Whitecaps, this is a more important game than it is for the visitors. If they win this game, they’ll miss the wildcards and can have longer to prepare for the play-offs.
However, in recent weeks, Saturday’s hosts have struggled to be at their best, losing each of their last two, failing to score in both of those games. They’ll need to do better here.
For the visitors, the job is done. They can relax. They’re in the play-offs and they’ve skipped the wildcard match, so they don’t really need to worry about the result here.
Of course, Steve Cherundolo’s men won’t go to BC Place and roll over, but will they go all out and overly expend themselves? Probably not. Expect them to be solid, compact and wait for counter-offensive opportunities. Such an approach often serves them well on the road.
Vancouver Whitecaps vs LAFC picks
Looking at the early lines, just the one bet appeals ahead of the final regular-season game in the Western Conference.
Under 3.0 Asian Total
A quick glance at the early lines and you’d think that this fixture will absolutely be goal filled, though I’m not so sure, and here’s why:
For starters, it’s only the hosts that need to win this game, and to be honest, they don’t necessarily NEED to win. They’re in the postseason regardless, though a win here would simply see them skip the wildcard round. Of course, they will want to do just that, but their recent offensive form doesn’t exactly suggest that they’ll trouble a strong visiting defense.
After all, the LAFC boys have kept a clean sheet in three of their last six on the road, while they’ve not always opted to go crazy in the final third, scoring more than twice in just one of those six, scoring less than twice in three of those six.
The Whitecaps have now failed to score in back-to-back home games, while they’ve scored only one goal in their last four (excluding extra time).
A little short of final-third quality the hosts have been, but they’re not the easiest to break down at home, so we shouldn’t expect the visitors to run riot. Vanni Sartini’s men have only conceded more than once in one of their last seven domestic fixtures at BC Place, keeping four clean sheets during that time. Only one of those seven games has contained more than two goals.
Given the situation and the numbers, there’s enough to suggest that this may not be quite as high-scoring as the early lines suggest, leaving us to grab some value for money by taking odds of +100 on ‘Under 3.0 Asian Total’.
