How to read MLB betting odds
Our MLB odds page is built to help you understand every key market in baseball betting, whether you're a beginner or a seasoned bettor.
From moneylines and run lines to totals, props, and futures, we explain what each bet type means, how to read the odds, and where to find the best value across sportsbooks.
Moneyline odds
The moneyline is the most straightforward MLB bet. You’re simply picking which team wins the game.
Negative odds (e.g., -160) show the favorite. You need to bet $160 to win $100.
Positive odds (e.g., +140) indicate the underdog. A $100 bet pays $140 if they win.
Moneyline betting is great when you’re confident in one team to win, no matter the score difference.
Run line odds (MLB point spread)
The run line is baseball’s version of the point spread, usually set at 1.5 runs.
Favorites at -1.5 must win by two or more runs to cover.
Underdogs at +1.5 can lose by one run or win outright to cover.
Run line bets offer better odds on favorites but carry more risk. They're also useful for backing underdogs in close games, especially with a strong pitcher on the mound.
Over/under odds (totals)
Over/under bets focus on the total number of runs scored by both teams combined.
If the line is set at 9.5, you’re betting on whether the total score will go over or under that number.
This market works well when you expect either strong pitching or lots of offense. Factors like starting pitchers, weather, and ballpark size all play a role.
First five innings bets
These bets cover just the first five innings of a game, similar to first-half bets in other sports.
You can place moneyline, spread, or total bets based on early-game performance.
First five bets are ideal when you trust a starting pitcher but don’t want to worry about the bullpen.
Live MLB betting odds
Live betting lets you place wagers during the game. Odds update in real time based on what’s happening on the field.
You can bet on things like:
Which team scores next
Total runs in the current inning
In-play moneylines, run lines, or totals
Live betting gives you flexibility to react to momentum shifts, key at-bats, or bullpen changes.
MLB futures odds
Futures bets look at long-term outcomes like:
World Series winner
Division or league champions
MVP or Cy Young winner
Over/under on total team wins
These odds shift throughout the season based on performance, trades, and injuries. The earlier you spot value, the better your potential payout.
MLB prop bets
Prop bets let you focus on specific player or team outcomes. Some common examples include:
Will a batter hit a home run?
Over/under on strikeouts by a pitcher
First team to score
Total hits or RBIs by a player
Props are a great way to follow individual matchups and find betting opportunities outside the final score.
Why compare MLB odds?
MLB odds are not the same across all betting apps. Even small changes in pricing can affect your long-term profit.
By comparing odds, you can:
Increase your returns
Reduce the sportsbook’s edge
Spot market movement and sharp plays
Make more informed bets
Our MLB odds page updates constantly with real-time prices from trusted, legal sportsbooks.
