Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio accidentally completes a half-marathon
Paolo Di Canio has been pure gold for OTP material since taking up the Swindon Town manager’s post and the latest episode might be our favourite so far.
The zany Italian inadvertently completed a half-marathon after taking a wrong turn during a fun run! The 43-year-old was supposed to start the Swindon half marathon by sounding the horn before dashing down to complete the two-mile short course.
But after making a wrong turn he ended up running 13.1 miles instead. He completed the race in one hour 49 minutes, just 36 minutes behind the winner.
He told the BBC: “I couldn’t stop, there was a challenge.
“There were three options, I thought I should start with the fun [run] marathon but unfortunately we changed direction, kept going and followed the first group.
“Unfortunately I ended up doing a full half marathon plus 800 metres. At the end I was very happy because I finished without stopping, even for one second. I wasn’t ready but I never stopped running.
“I’m very happy but it was very tough.”
