Yesterday’s bet failed to land a blow at Fontwell and was pulled up long before the death in slightly frustrating style, but such is this weird and wonderful game.

On Wednesday, there’s racing at Goodwood, Kempton, Perth and Redcar in Britain, while there’s a meeting at Listowel in Ireland too. From a betting point of view, we’re focusing on the final race at Perth. Read on for our free horse racing tips.

16:45 Perth - Limerick Leader to Win

The lucky last at Perth this afternoon is a Class 5 hurdle over two miles and four furlongs, and even for its type, this is a weak contest.

For my money, Limerick Leader has a rather gilt-edged opportunity to return to the winner’s enclosure.

Raced mainly over fences in the last year or so, Olly Murphy’s runner has the hurdles form to win a race of this nature, make no mistake about that, while his return to racing over timber last time out pointed towards his next visit to the winner's enclosure being near.

Back over the smaller obstacles at Worcester last time out, the gelding ran on for fourth in what was a stronger race than this, certainly in terms of quality in depth, doing so from 2 lbs higher in the weights.

On that evidence, the mount of Sean Bowen is a more serious player than early odds of 7/2 suggest. For me, he ought to be a stronger favourite as this really is a poor contest.

His previous efforts over hurdles show that he’s held his own in much better races than this and if the seven-year-old is to score again over timber, then he likely won’t get a better opportunity.

Murphy is a trainer who does well at Perth, winning with a chunky 31.58% of his runners at the venue in the last year, while he’s also won with 26.23% of his horses ridden by Sean Bowen during that time.

Ultimately, this is a runner that ticks more than enough boxes to be shorter than the currently available 7/2, so such odds are worth taking by those seeking value.
