Ex-Scotland boss lamps Odense official

Motherwell manager Craig Brown was spoken to by police after he threw a punch at an Odense official during last night’s Europa League defeat. The incident happened after Well missed a late penalty.

The Danish side’s sporting director Kim Brink allegedly shoved 70-year-old Brown in the back causing him to swing out in retaliation.

Brown said: “The police have spoken to us. I think it was their sporting director that got a bit carried away.

“I don’t know why but he came to our dugout. I think he was a bit displeased.

“We had a wee bit of a disagreement, putting it euphemistically. I got a shove and I had a retaliatory punch.”

Jamie Murphy missed the spot-kick and Motherwell were knocked out of the competition.

In other Scottish Europa League disappointment news, Celtic were whipped 4-0 by Utrecht. The fourth goal was scored by Barry Maguire, but was not – as it might sound – an own goal. He is actually the Dutch-born, half-Irish midfielder who has rejected under 21 call-ups from the Republic of Ireland.
