Juventus midfielder Felipe Melo has been given a yellow card – and the referee has autographed it for him! The Brazil international had a torrid season last year in both footballing and disciplinary terms, culminating in him being sent-off for a stamp on Arjen Robben in the World Cup quarter-finals.
He received 13 yellow cards and 2 red cards in total during the last campaign, but is now apparently a reformed character.
The improvement in his temperament was noted by referee Christian Brighi during last weekend’s 4-2 win over Cagliari. Brighi gave Melo a signed yellow card after the match which read: “To Felipe’s good brother. With sympathy, Christian Brighi.”
Brighi reckons the turnaround has been so great that the player he now refs must be the good brother of the bad Felipe he saw last season.
Melo said: “I know that I have important qualities and no one has ever said that I am bad with my feet. I am an optimist. Juve are on the right track and will get back to being great.”
Nonetheless, Melo has still managed three yellow cards in six games so far.
