A good walk spoiled

Birmingham’s players have been banned from playing golf 48 hours before matches. Blues boss Alex McLeish has told his players they should not be sneaking in a quick round on their rest days.

City’s squad have now received a code of conduct, which makes it clear that they are expected to bunker (geddit) down at home when they are not in for training. Players breaking the code of conduct will face disciplinary action.

McLeish said: “It is not a day off, it is about recovery. Golfing so close to a football match, it stands to reason it is going to take it out of your legs.

“If you are marching around a golf course then it is quite demanding to go and play a game of football 24 or 48 hours later. We have a 48-hour ruling, it is in the club rules.

“It is so intensive a league, rest is important and days off are also not about going out and getting pissed and sleeping the hangover off.”

OTP doesn’t know what sort of golf clubs Big Eck has been going to, but we had our membership revoked last time we popped an Alka-Seltzer and settled down for a snooze on the 17th green.
