Generic chant hits a nerve with Blackpool gaffer
Of all the things that are chanted at football matches, and which Ian Holloway must have heard during his time in the game, the ‘Premier League? You’re having a laugh’ song must be among the least offensive.
But Olly took umbrage to Southampton supporters’ sing-song after Blackpool were dumped out of the FA Cup by the League One side.
A disgruntled Holloway said: “It’s an unbelievable turnaround for them to be shouting ‘Premier League? You’re having a laugh’. Well, I am having a laugh – I’m loving every minute of it because my team has earned the right to be there.
“I don’t think you should be quite as disrespectful as that. Maybe they’re a little bit jealous that a little club like Blackpool can do it and Southampton have fallen from grace.
“But I’m sure they’ll get it back one day.”
It is about time the FA clamped down on this sort of thing. It truly is the scourge of our game. Let’s kick sarcasm out of football.
