Love isn’t in the air

Preston North End supporters suffered cruel mocking of their relegation to League One from an unusual medium at the weekend. Any fans looking to the heavens and praying for a chance to stay in the Championship were instead greeted by the sight of a plane trailing banners reading: “Poor little Preston enjoy League One” and “We are superior love Blackpool FC.”

The incident is being investigated by the Civil Aviation Authority after the plane made a low pass over Deepdale to display its message during North End’s 3-1 victory over Watford.

We can now add anti-aircraft gunfire to team talks on the pitch, sunbeds and popstar microphones on our list of things Phil Brown likes.

He said: “If I had had a gun I would have shot them down. Arrest me now if you want. I found it very distasteful.

“Maybe I will be flying the Preston plane when it comes to the end of the season.”
