Fed-up of a night of Sergio Aguero running in behind the Wigan defence, Latics left-back Maynor Figueroa came up with a new way of defending Manchester City’s counter attacks.
After misjudging the flight of the ball, Figueroa opted for a leaping handball to deny Aguero a clear run on goal.
Referee Chris Foy opted to show a yellow card – much to the disgust of City boss Roberto Mancini – after obviously reaching the conclusion that a handball on the halfway line couldn’t constitute denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity even if it was ridiculously cynical.
