You might think that definition of a difficult football match is waking up after the alarm on a Sunday, being forced to wear kit that is dirty and smelly from last week, trying to pick your way down a left flank littered with empty beer cans and syringes and ultimately losing out to a team full of overweight, hungover louts.

But think again…

Because school children on the island of East Java, Indonesia have been learning to play the game with a ball that is on fire. The young students actually use a football which consists of a coconut that is soaked in kerosene.

The game forms the end of a 21-day ritual designed to give players mental toughness and spirituality, but presumably a wamr feeling around the foot area too?

In faact, children can be seen praying before games for their feet not to get seriously burnt.

A lovely quote from the match organiser for you:

We make a fireball to test the guts of the students

Can’t really say it fairer or squarer than that.
