Louis Van Gaal has dropped a big hint that he plans to appoint Robin Van Persie as his Manchester United captain.

Van Persie currently skippers Van Gaal’s Holland team and the United armband will be up for grabs after Nemanja Vidic’s departure this summer.

Van Gaal praised the United star as a “good captain” after the draw against Ecuador in a World Cup warm-up game over the weekend.

He contined: “Always, you make a player captain when you have more or less the same philosophy, not only about football tactics but also about life.

“So I think that’s very important. I believe that Van Persie and Van Gaal [have] the same philosophy.”

Talking about himself in the third person? Proof that the veteran Dutchman has got plenty of the ego and arrogance that many pundits are saying will be essential in the Old Trafford hot-seat.
