Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie says he has been playing through the pain barrier for the past six years.

The Holland international, currently preparing for the World Cup with his national team, has revealed that he hasn’t been injury free on the pitch since he was at former club Arsenal.

And even in those days he was a physio room regular.

He revealed: “Fitness wise I’ve been making steps in the last couple of weeks. Sometimes big steps, sometimes small steps but I’m feeling all right you know.

“I had a little issue with my groin over the last couple of days but I can’t even call that an injury. I’ve been with playing with pain for the last five, six years, every single game.

“I can’t really think of one game that I started without having a niggle or having a some pain somewhere. I’m used to that.

“I think I know together with the team, with the medical staff, how to deal with that. I’m the one who looks at that and manages that.”

Van Persie was reported to have fallen out with David Moyes over the former United manager’s reluctance to let him manage his own injury.
