Robin Van Persie has escaped serious injury after a bizarre kiteboarding accident on a beach in Rio De Janeiro.
The Manchester United striker and his Netherlands team-mate Daryl Janmaat were both hit by a kiteboard as the relaxed on the beach yesterday, reports Sports24.
Kiteboarding is like surfing or wakeboarding, but with a kite providing extra power. Strong gusts of wind can send boarders off course, which appears to be the case here.
The pair were both knocked over but only suffered minor injuries.
The KNVB said: “There is no reason for concern. It’s nothing serious, just a few scratches.”
Neither player’s place in the squad to face Spain in the Netherlands’ World Cup opener against Spain is likely to be impacted by the incident.
Feyenoord right-back Janmaat is rumoured to be a summer transfer target for Arsenal and Spurs.
