1. Just when Brazil thought things couldn’t get any worse, they had to sign-off their home World Cup within another hiding.

2. David Luiz was hopeless once again. Brazil would probably have been better with his mascot doppelganger.

3. Captain Thiago Silva’s absence was cited as a possible reason for the Germany rout in the semi-final. Him conceding a penalty within the first three minutes of this game indicated that perhaps it was as well he was out of harm’s way last time out.

4. Robin Van Persie on the scoresheet and Louis Van Gaal ending his reign with a win and a bronze medal: Netherlands’ Manchester United contingent will be heading to Old Trafford relatively pleased with their work.

5. If Luiz Felipe Scolari was clinging to any hope of keeping hold of his job, that’s now gone. Expect him to be fired very soon.
