Netherlands boss Louis Van Gaal says he wants his Manchester United to emulate the Dutch World Cup squad next season.

Van Gaal bows out of his national team duties after guiding them to a 0-3 win over hosts Brazil in last night’s third-place playoff.

He is keen that his United squad becomes as close-knit as the Netherlands one.

He said: “I hope the group in Manchester will become like this one. We have to sing from the same hymn sheet.”

Van Gaal now heads to Old Trafford to take over the reins and lead United on their pre-season tour to the USA.

He added: “There will always be a place in my heart for these 23 players and my staff.

“I have top staff. They are great people. My players were even better. It was a great group.”

Van Gaal already has captain Robin Van Persie from that group with him and has been linked with moved for several other members of the squad, most strongly defenders Stefan De Vrij and Bruno Martins Indi.
