Manchester United do not want to sign reported transfer target Stefan De Vrij and never have, according to reports in his native Netherlands.
De Vrij, a member of Louis Van Gaal’s World Cup squad, has been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford to reunite with his former national team boss.
But the rumours are wide of the mark and Van Gaal has no interest in signing the 22-year-old centre-back, claims RTV Rijnmond journalist Jan Dirk Stouten.
He reports that Italian side Lazio are the only club to make an offer for De Vrij and says that United have “no interest in him”.
United seem certain to bring in at least one new centre-back this summer after losing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
De Vrij was thought to be a prime candidate given that Van Gaal’s chances of landing Borussia Dortmund star Mats Hummels look very slim.
