But the Ghana international was able to draw a line under those suggestions via his official Twitter account.

He wrote: “No truth in internet rumours that I have contracted Ebola.

“I’m very well & I’m doing very goodd & will be training as usual tomorrow. #falsenews.”

Essien’s tweet follows a similar, albeit more tongue-in-cheek, announcement from former Birmingham City striker Dele Adebola.
