Tottenham Hotspur are ‘very close’ to completing the signing of Ghana international Andre Ayew, according to French publication Foot Mercato.
The Marseille man is out of contract this summer and all but certain to move on to a new club having publicly said his goodbyes.
Spurs are among the host of clubs credited with interest in the 25-year-old, but it is Italian outfit Roma who have long looked like his most likely destination.
Today’s report suggests that interest from the Serie A side might have cooled and that it is now Mauricio Pochettino’s side who are closing in on Ayew’s signature.
The north Londoners are keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of next season and Ayew’s free agent status makes him an attractive proposition. The attacking midfielder is said to be interested in the Spurs ‘project’.
Ayew scored 10 goals and chipped in with three assists in Ligue 1 last season.
Inter Milan are also reported to have made an offer for Ayew, but the player apparently considers them to be too unstable to join at the moment.
