Manchester City have had a £5m bid for Fulham wonderkid Patrick Roberts rejected by the Championship side, according to The Guardian.

The Premier League runners-up lodged the bid for the 18-year-old Cottagers starlet as they seek to bolster their homegrown player ranks ahead of the 2015/16 season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also been knocked back with a recent bid for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and are also said to be plotting a move for Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

Fulham have reportedly told City that they will need to increase their £5m bid considerable in order to secure a deal for England under-19 international Roberts.

The youngster is apparently seen as a star of the future by the Etihad hierarchy and, although the club are scrambling to sign British talent, he could be loaned out next season.

Roberts recently turned down a new contract at Craven Cottage and The Guardian report predicts that a compromise will be reached between the two clubs.
