Fulham wonderkid Patrick Roberts is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Liverpool and Manchester City, according to The Sun.

The Reds and City have recently gone head-to-head over Raheem Sterling’s future, with the England international sealing his £49m move to the Etihad yesterday afternoon.

Now, the two sides will battle for another English talent.

Liverpool are reportedly ready to dip into the proceeds of the Sterling deal to invest around £5m in landing 18-year-old Roberts.

But City have already had a similar bid rejected by the Cottagers, who are reported to want £10m for their youngsters.

Roberts is currently stalling over a new five-year contract worth £5,000-a-week from the Championship side.

He has got his sights set on a return to the Premier League, where he made his Fulham debut against City in a 5-0 defeat in March 2014.

Roberts, who joined Fulham from AFC Wimbledon in 2010, has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level. He has five goals in eight appearances for the under-19 side.
