The Jamaica international has immediately been loaned back to the Royals, indicating that he was not a panic buy following the failure to land Everton’s John Stones.
The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Hector is a boyhood Chelsea fan and is now expected to link-up with the Blues ahead of the 2016/17 season.
The defender started his youth career at Millwall, before joining Reading in 2009.
Having made 11 loan moves away from Reading over the course of his career, including spells at Barnet, Cheltenham Town and Aberdeen, Hector now finds himself in the unusual position of making a loan switch TO the Madejski Stadium.
