Speaking at his pre-match press conference this lunchtime, United boss Louis van Gaal confirmed Young was unavailable.
The 30-year-old suffered the injury in the 3-0 defeat at Arsenal a fortnight ago in a challenge with Gunners midfielder Aaron Ramsey, and has not yet recovered.
Young had been tipped to replace the below-par Memphis Depay in attack, but will be unable to do so against the Toffees.
The former Aston Villa man has been filling in at left-back in recent weeks. Van Gaal’s worries in that regard are eased slightly by the return to fitness of Marcos Rojo.
But with the Argentina international not yet fit to play a full match, the United boss might still have to play Matteo Darmian at left-back and Antonio Valencia at right-back.
