Van Gaal – who was already under fire having sold Javier Hernandez, who now can’t stop scoring, to Bayer Leverkusen – has seen Wilson score two goals in four games on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion. That has prompted inevitable questions as to why the 19-year-old hotshot has been allowed to leave Old Trafford given that United are currently struggling for goals.
Speaking at his press conference today ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Norwich City, Van Gaal was keen to point out that Wilson’s loan deal includes a recall clause.
He indicated that he would bring the England Under-21 international back to the club if his side were in trouble.
Wilson’s loan deal at the American Express Community Stadium runs until the end of the season, assuming United don’t bring him back to Old Trafford before that.
