Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny will travel to London today to complete his transfer to Arsenal, according to Egyptian football website King Fut.

The Egypt international, aged 23, was expected to finalise his switch to the Emirates soon after the start of the current transfer window, with the two clubs having agreed a £7.3m fee and the player having agreed personal terms and passed a medical before the window opened on January 2.

Since then the deal has been held up by what were thought to be work permit issues, but manager Arsene Wenger has openly admitted that he expected the deal to be done within a matter of days.

King Fut’s report suggests those problems actually related to his UK visa. In other words, the process to obtain a permit from the FA was relatively straightforward, but the delay was caused by his efforts to obtain permission to live and work in the UK from the government.

Those issues have finally be resolved and that Elneny will become an Arsenal player today, the article claims. He is likely to be officially unveiled by the club later today after he has put pen to paper on all the relevant paperwork.
