Liverpool have missed out on the signing of Shakhtar Donetsk star Alex Teixeira, according to ESPN Brasil.

Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu has reportedly told ESPN that a deal has been struck to sell Teixeira to Chinese side Jiangsu Suning.

The 26-year-old was the subject of a €32m bid from the Reds last month. That was rejected by the Ukrainian side, who insisted Teixeira would not be sold before the summer.

But the latest indications are that the Brazilian attacking midfielder was available at the right price. Jiangsu, who recently signed Chelsea midfielder Ramires, have reportedly sealed the deal with a bid of €50m.

Lucescu told ESPN: “We agreed the sale of Alex Teixeira to China, but we will wait a bit to give as finalised because of the situation (Luiz) Adriano.

“But it is closed from our side, yes.”

AC Milan striker Adriano has agreed a move to Jiangsu last month, only to pull the plug as the deal was about to be completed.

Liverpool will hope that Teixeira, who previously expressed a desire to come to the Premier League to bolster his prospects of breaking into the Brazil squad, has similar doubts over his move to China.
