Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has turned down two lucrative transfers to the Chinese Super League, according to The Sunday Times.

The article claims that the England skipper, aged 30, has completely shut down the idea of a move to the Far East.

It has recently been reported that United were toying with the idea of selling Rooney to China this summer if they were able to find a marquee name to replace him in the team.

But Rooney, captain of his country and one of the biggest clubs in the world, with a charity testimonial match to play in August and having just become a father for the third time, has made it clear that under no circumstances would he consider a move to China at present.

Rooney has three-and-a-half years to run on his United contract and is expected to become the club’s all-time leading goalscorer before the end of the season.
