Manchester United have lodged a £20m bid for Benfica centre-back Victor Lindelof, according to Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet.
The 21-year-old has been on the Portuguese champions’ books since 2012, but has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the first-team this term. He has also broken into the Sweden squad, winning two caps to date and earning a place in his nation’s Euro 2016 squad.
He has been keeping Benfica club captain Luisao out of the team in recent weeks and has seemingly caught the eye of United’s Portuguese scouts, who have watched almost every Benfica game this calendar year to run the rule over Renato Sanches, who subsequently signed for Bayern Munich.
Lindelof is a 6ft 2in defender who can also operate in a defensive midfielder. With his cropped hair and strapping frame, there is something of a similarity with Old Trafford legend Nemanja Vidic.
The report claims Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern are all keeping tabs on the youngster.
Lindelof is under contract until June 2020 and has a £23m buyout clause.
