Tottenham Hotspur have had a €14m bid for AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen rejected by the Dutch club, according to The Guardian.
AZ are holding out for a fee of €20m for their Netherlands international.
Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino has been keen for some time to add support for Harry Kane by increasing his pool of strikers. He reportedly made a personal scouting mission to watch Janssen play against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin last month.
Janssen, aged 22, is at the end of a breakthrough season in which he finished as the Eredivisie’s top goalscorer.
He came through the ranks at Feyenoord, but was released. He joined Almere City before making a €400,000 move to AZ, where he has three years to run on his contract.
As well as demanding a bigger transfer fee, the Dutch club are reportedly unimpressed by Spurs’ proposal to spread payment of the fee over three years.
