Arsenal have sent recent signing Kelechi Nwakali on loan to Dutch side MVV Maastricht for the season.

The 18-year-old was snapped up by the Gunners in the last transfer window after impressing as he captained Nigeria Under-17s to World Cup victory in Chile last year, winning the player of the tournament award in the process.

Nwakali had previously been playing for the Diamond Football Academy in his homeland before finalising his switch to north London in the summer.

But his time in the UK has proved to be short-lived for now, with the teenager heading off to the Netherland today.

Nwakali has been granted a Dutch work permit ahead of the move and finalised a season-long move until the end of the 2016/17 campaign.

Maastricht plan in the Eerste Divisie, Dutch football’s second tier. Nwakali will join up with fellow Gunner Stefan O’Connor, who has also moved to Maastricht on loan.
