Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson is in line for an England call-up in the forthcoming international fixtures, according to The Independent.

Three Lions boss Sam Allardyce is reportedly impressed with what he has seen from 6ft 1in centre-back Gibson since he arrived in the Premier League with Boro. He is understood to be planning to give the left-footer his England debut before the end of the year.

England hsot Malta at home on Saturday, October 8, and play Slovenia away on Tuesday, October 11. They then host Scotland in a World Cup qualifier on November 11 and face Spain in a friendly on Tuesday 15.

Gibson, aged 23, is a Boro academy product and the nephew of chairman Steve Gibson.

He has been on the club’s books since 2005 and has clocked up 116 senior appearances for the Teesside team, including all five of their Premier League games so far this season.

He has been closely watched by Allardyce and his assistant Sammy Lee in recent weeks.
