Former Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has suggested that out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could make a move to Major League Soccer.

The pair have played together for Bayern Munich and the Germany national team, and Podolski seems to think his friends could be heading to the USA.

Schweinsteiger, aged 32, has been completely frozen out at Old Trafford by new manager Jose Mourinho, with the Portuguese boss publicly declaring that the veteran midfielder is not part of his plans and has no prospects of featuring in the team.

But the World Cup winner still has two years to run on the three-year contract he signed when former manager Louis van Gaal bought him from Bayern in the summer 2015 transfer window.

Podolski, currently playing in Turkey for Galatasaray, has suggested he will be heading to America at the end of the season and hinted that Schweinsteiger could join him.

He told German newspaper Bild: “I think America is great. Moving abroad is good for personality development and it would also be good for our children.

“Clearly it would be possible to play with Schweinsteiger in the States. What happened to (Schweinsteiger) is unfair.

“It is not correct to deport Basti to the second team. A coach must always keep the doors open to all players.”
