Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has donned the new Germany home kit for a post on his Twitter account.

Die Mannschaft will wear the new jersey at next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

In a cheeky accompanying tweet, Ozil wrote: “Dressed like a World Champion.”

That initially sounds a bit presumptuous until you remember that Ozil and his team-mates go into the tournament as holders and therefore this kit is precisely what a world champion would wear, at least up to the final whistle blows in the final.

UPDATE:

Afterwards, this tweet actually sounder a bit presumptuous given that Germany were eliminated in the stage group. Ozil’s team even finished bottom of Group F in the tournament in Russia, beating all the odds provided by the betting apps.

This World Cup, and this jersey, proved to be a real turning point in Mesut’s career and life. The German media got mad at him during and after the competition over his form at the World Cup, the team’s performances and a picture of him taken with Turkish president Erdogan. With public opinion earmarking him as one of the main reasons for Die Mannschaft’s failure in last World Cup, he recently decided to give up playing for the national team, even accusing the German FA and some media of racism.

Ozil is now totally focused on Arsenal’s results and will have a lot of time to kill when most of his colleagues head off to their respective national teams, so we can expect to see more of him on Twitter and other websites like Virgin and Instagram.
