Qatar’s hosting of the World Cup has rightly come in for much criticism, with the country’s strict treatment of homosexuality in particular being attacked.
However, one thing we were promised were futuristic stadia, and they have at least delivered on that remit.
This is the design for the Al Wakrah stadium, which will hold 45,000 spectators and be located south of Doha.
The designs mention the cooling of the ground with climate-control technology, and the surrounds of the stadium will also have spa, aquatic and other sporting facilities, along with a shopping centre.
