Founded in December 1993, MLS started with only ten teams in 1996 but has since expanded to include 26 teams, which is a sign of the continued growth of the league. Throughout the years, MLS fans have witnessed some fantastic players in action but who is the best ever MLS player?

MLS has seen some of the biggest names in world football but they have not necessarily been the best players. Arguably the greatest ever player in the history of the MLS is United States international, Landon Donovan. The attacking midfielder played for San Jose Earthquakes between 2001 and 2004 but is best known for his time at Los Angeles Galaxy, where he spent over a decade of his career.

Donovan leads the way in terms of MLS career assists and is second in the all-time goal scorers list. He is a six-time MLS Cup winner plus has claimed the MLS MVP award and was named in the MLS Best XI several times. In addition, the league’s Most Valuable Player award is named after him and that tells you everything you need to know about Donovan’s standing in the American game.

Another man who is in contention as the best ever MLS player is Chris Wondolowski. Talking purely in goals, the forward is the best man to play in the MLS thanks to his standing as the MLS’ all-time leading goal scorer. Wondolowski has 152 goals to his name, scoring in appearances for both the San Jose Earthquakes and Houston Dynamo.

If you are considering having a wager on the MLS top goal scorer in future seasons, you should take advantage of no deposit bonuses. They are a great way to enjoy gambling without the fear of losing any money plus they are available at online casinos such as Borgata, Golden Nugget, Caesars and 888.

Moving on in the contenders for the best ever MLS player and we come to our first overseas representative, Jaime Moreno. The Bolivian international played for DC United and MetroStars, winning the MLS Cup four times and was the first man to reach both 100 goals and assists in Major League Soccer. That stat alone makes Moreno one of the greatest ever players to feature in MLS.

However, we cannot ignore the contribution of former Republic of Ireland international Robbie Keane. The forward represented Los Angeles Galaxy Between 2011 and 2016 and was named in the MLS Best XI four times. Keane was part of the hugely successful team that included David Beckham and Landon Donovan.

Speaking of Beckham, some fans will believe he deserves to be in contention as the best ever MLS player. He won two MLS Cups and two Supporters’ Shields with LA Galaxy but it was his overall impact on MLS that sees him ranked so highly.

Other names which deserve to be included in the discussion include Jeff Agoos, Dwayne De Rosario, Marco Etcheverry, and Nick Rimando.
