Big Sam averages five points in his first four games at a new club, which will not be enough to keep Leeds up, according to new data

Research by Sporting Post has revealed that Sam Allardyce wins five points on average during his first four matches in charge of a new club, which is how long he has to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

This would take Leeds’ current Premier League points total to 35.

In the last 10 seasons, teams with 35 points finish in 18th, on average, meaning that Big Sam’s usual start to a new job will not be good enough to keep Leeds in the Premier League.

Since the 2012/13 season, 35 points has been enough to escape relegation on one occasion only, with seven occasions it only being enough for 18th and twice 19th.

Allardyce’s best record in his first four matches at a new club came when he took over at Everton, winning three times and drawing once on his way to immediately adding 10 points to the Toffee’s tally.

While his worst return was when he gained one point after taking the reins at Crystal Palace in 2016/17, West Brom in 2020/21 and Notts County in 1997/98.

A SportingPost.com spokesperson said: “Sam Allardyce is the most famous firefighter in Britain and Leeds are the latest Premier League team to project the Big Sam-signal for the final four games of their season. However, Allardyce averages five points in his first four matches at a new club, which will not be enough to keep them in the league according to our latest research.”
